Excavation

We began the Excavation on March 4th (my Mum and Dad's Anniversary! Love that 'March Forth into a New Life thing goin' on, there!). The Earth Movers were actually at the Land on March 1st, but there was a slight misunderstanding with the Condo Board -- they placed a Stop Work Order on the Land. Not the most pleasant phone call, ever...Dwight met with the President of the Condo Association the next day and straightened the whole thing out. Seemed to be primarily a paper-work issue. The Stop Work Order was lifted.

Things often happen during the Construction Process that seem daunting, but it's essential to stay calm and deal with each issue as it arises. Dwight is particularly good at this. Most problems sound worse than they really are, so gather all the facts before you react to a situation. Often a solution will present itself before you know it, and it may even end up being a 'blessing in disguise', as many problems turn out to be! It's much easier to come up with a solution when everyone is calm and reasonable.

Anyway, the Excavation Process began on the 4th and was completed within a week. Not only was that really fast work, but remarkable given the weather -- we had the coldest weather in Albertan History that week -- minus 37 degrees Celsius! Man, that's cold! Everyone was surprised that the Machines and the Operators could withstand that level of cold. They did a Fantastic job!

All of the Excavation work was done by Terrex Construction out of Okotoks, Alberta, Canada.
