October 26th - 20th, 2003.

Sunday, October 26th. Hello, Sweetie-Pie! How's your Weekend going?? Well, I hope! Ours has been very exciting, what with all the Grouting, 'n all!! Ah, this is the Life!! ha,ha! I have wanted to get this crazy grouting done for a long time, though, so I really am happy to get it done! Plus, I happen to really love grouting... that's just the kind of girl I am! I like to see a job well done (emphasis on the 'done'!!), and I am very fond of 'smooth lines'. Go figure!

So we got a fair bit of the Floor done -- all of the Laundry Room, Kitchen, Last Half of the Front Entry, and half of the Dining Room. It's such a huge space, that that is a lot of work to get done in one day! And now my arm is really sore, but I'll get over it -- it's all worth it to get the Tiled Floor done so I can put the House on the Market...

Hey, do you ever watch The Suze Orman Show? She's great! There's a link to her website on my Links Page, if you want to go check out her site. Anyway, she made a very interesting point about 'how you would paint your life, if you were to create your own picture'...Thought provoking, no?? I've always had a picture in my mind of my home in California, over-looking the Beach with a gorgeous Pool. Surely I can make that happen!! Must start planning, now!

I'm a firm believer in 'Visualization'. Have you tried this, or have you done this successfully, already? Write and let me know your story!! That's how we got into this house -- I visualized the whole thing, drew it, dreamt about it, then built it. And look how well that whole thing turned out!! And you can do it, too! If you're just getting interested in Real Estate, start by Cleaning Up Your Financial House, begin Putting Some Money Aside, and Then Head Out to Find Your Future Home. Start Small, and then Plan to Move Up in Time.

Dwight used to always have a 'Five Year Plan'. He wanted to live in one place for a minimum of 5 years each time, and I thought that was a crazy idea, because that plan didn't take into consideration the Market Place. When you're in the Midst of a Hot Housing Market, use that in your favor to Move Out and Up! Why Not? We would never have been able to afford this house if we had followed Dwight's old plan of staying in our Condo for those five years. We've moved twice in the last Five years (from the Condo, to a nice Moderate Home, to this Gorgeous Big House... And Dwight's glad I dragged him along for the ride!). And now I'm ready to move, again. That's just my nature.

Tip of the Day: Welcome Change. Embrace it. Find it. Teach your Children how to Manage Change with Relative Ease. It's a critical skill for everyone, now -- everybody needs to be able to cope with change, and the sooner you can show that to your children, the better off they'll be. It really is remarkable how resilient people are, what they can go through and come out smiling on the other end. It just takes Hope, Courage and a really great Plan (then a few 'alternate plans', should the first one not work out!!) to make your life great! I've been through the Fire and Back, so I don't fear Problems -- I just see them as Obstacles to overcome. Works for me -- it'll work for you, too! Hey, maybe you'll Build Your Own House right next to Mine on the California Coast!! ha,ha,ha,ha!! See you there!!

Here's your 'Daily Pics Fix'!!

Hey, the pictures won't come through -- wonder why that is?? I'll have to figure that one out!

The first Two Shots are The Moon Over the Mountains on it's way Down, in the Morning, which happens like this very rarely. The Third picture is the Full Moon coming up to the East of us, out the Front Door.-- the Views here are truly amazing!

Say, thanks for swingin' by for a wee visit! See you tomorrow!! Later, Baby! Ailsa!

Saturday, October 25th. Hi, Honey! You're Home!! And I'm happy to see you, again! I really appreciate all my wonderful (and surprisingly brilliant...!) Readers!! Hey, you know what I did for fun, yesterday? Now this might seem crazy, and perhaps a bit self-indulgent, but I typed my own name into the Search Engines, just to see if I'd come up, and Whammo -- I did! WooHoo! And I came upon a whole lot of Sites and Site Owners with Ailsa as a Title!! Must make a new 'Ailsa' Page for you to browse through! ha,ha!

So today is 'Grout Day'! Steve is coming over to give us a hand, and I hope to get the Whole Kitchen/Dining Area/Laundry Room and Sunroom done. That's over 1500 square feet, but with three of us working, we should get a lot done, right?? And Steve and I have both devised little 'tricks' to get the Grouting done faster and easier, so we'll see how that goes!

We have to Measure the Hot Tub, again, for the exact measurements, and we have to 'Trace the Arc' on the Corners of the Tub before we can order the New Teal Hot Tub Cover. The old one was brown, and I didn't like it...Teal will be gorgeous!

I've contacted the Driveway Guys, to see if it's too late to get the Driveway Paved, so I'll let you know how that works out. It took me this long to convince Dwight that it's time to Pave it!

Tip of the Day: Actually, this comes partially from Dateline -- they had a story on people being able to obtain a copy of your car keys just from reading your I.D.# right through the Windshield. Have you ever heard of that?? Me, neither! So the Tip is to cover the Serial Number on your Dashboard with a piece of Duct Tape. Do we all own a ton of Duct Tape?? Yuff, yuff!

And now for your 'Daily Pic Fix'!!

This is the View from my Office on the Walk-Out Level. You can see how I never have to miss any Show -- not ever!! ha,ha! I always start my day, now, with Ellen Degeneres and Wayne Brady -- great music, great laughs, great guests... man, how will I ever be able to go back to work??? har, har! (Outside the 'Home', I mean!!)

Wayne is giving that sweet little girl a gorgeous Lab Puppy (aaaawww!), then there's his Musical Guest, Peter Frampton, whom I adore (!), and then there's Ellen..... and I can't quite see who's in that picture!! ha,ha! Ah, well. I'll have to make it bigger to see who it is!

Well, must get along to my 'real work'! Grouting!! I've just Saved some 'Moon Over the Mountains' shots, so I'll post them, tomorrow! See you then!

Thanks for stoppin' by! Later, Baby! Ailsa!

Friday, October 24th. Hey, Sweet Thing!! What's shakin', today?? Man, cannot believe it's Friday, already! Is the time flying by for you, too? Remember when 15 minutes seemed like forever?? Now years go by and I can't believe it! Must be an age thing!

I'm watching Wayne Brady while I write this, and he is sooo funny... plus, Peter Frampton is on, this morning! Man! I loooove Peter Frampton!! And he just gave a wee girl a Lab Puppy! Does it get any better than that?? I took a picture, so I'll get it on the site, tomorrow.

Did you see Survivor, last night? I thought they were going to get rid of my favorite guy, Rupert... he's like a Gentle Giant....It's great to watch Survivor when the weather starts to turn cold, up here. It was freezing yesterday, so seeing those gorgeous beaches always makes me feel better! Plus, I love all the Drama! And when Andrew wears his Armani Jacket with his Boxers, that's hilarious! And I think a trend that's definitely going to catch on, among the Desert Island Crowd.

Hey, I just thought of a great name for a 'Cake Shop' -- 'Dessert Island'. Wouldn't that be a fun place to go and have some lovely desserts?? Mmmm...must have some special treat, today! Diet, schmiet!! ha,ha,ha!

Oh, before I forget, remember how I was telling you that our favorite Employee, Steve, is leaving to pursue his Comedy Career? Yep, so now Dwight is going to need a new Employee. So if you know a guy who lives in the Calgary Area who wants to work for a Mechanical Company (D.K. Mechanical!), drop me a line. The hourly wage starts at $9.00/hr. That's my little plug for Dwight!

Good. Back to us!! ha,ha! You know what Tia, the Dog, does that is hysterical? When she comes in from her last 'trip out' at night, she 'speed eats'! She runs to her Dish, get one piece of dog food, then literally races over to her bed, eats it, then races back. This goes on for ages, and is absolutely hilarious! Must tape it for you!

Wow, Robert Downey Jr. is singing a Steely Dan tune on Wayne -- man, he's great! Who knew?? He has some serious talents!!

Tip of the Day: I figured this out when we were in the middle of an Open House years ago when we were selling our Condo.Dwight kept making a mess in the Front Entry Bath, so I had to keep running in with a cloth to clean it up... You know how neat everything has to be when you're selling your Home!

Anyway, the Tip is to always keep a little Face Cloth or one of those new Scotch Brite Cloths that clean any Mirror or Faucets without water or other Cleaners (very cool product!) underneath each Sink. Makes for an easy and quick clean up. The other thing I do for 'ease in cleaning' is to keep a thing of Kitchen & Bathroom Cleaner under each Sink, too. When you have to roam the house looking for some Cleaning Fluid, the chances are really high that you'll find something else to do (considerably more fun than cleaning -- although nothing is more fun for Dwight than cleaning...but let's say you're a normal person and not a clean freak...! ha,ha,ha!), and before you know it, 6 months have gone by and the Bathroom is still waiting to be cleaned!! ha,ha,ha!

Here's your 'Daily Pic Fix'!!

Hey, I just added the 'Big Pictures', so you can click on these little ones to get a better 'View'!

I just went through and 'put' the bigger pics on for all the pictures on this page! Scroll Down and Click away!!

That's the View from the new Sunroom Deck! Yes, that's the Highwood River in the Third Picture -- nice, huh?? The White Line is the New Railing. You can see how the Leaves have almost all fallen, already! It won't be long before the whole place is covered in snow, and that is just spectacular, so I'll show you that, too!

I'll need to get Cara to take some pictures of ME! Then I can show you my 'Before & After' shots -- but not before I get some good 'after' shots!! ha,ha,ha!

Oh, yeah. I've been doing the 'food management' thing for the last 10 months, or so, and then seriously for the past 6 months, and I've lost over 30 pounds, so I'm very pleased with that. Now I can go directly to the 'Medium' Sizes! YaaHooo! And no more worry about Diabetes, which is great! But here's a little 'Diet Tip' for you so you can still have a wee treat every now and then... If you are going to have a treat (which is healthy and okay!), try to make a conscious decision to have it earlier in the day rather than later (like right before bed!! ha,ha!). Then you'll have the whole day to 'work it off'...

Okay, gotta go! Aidan wants some Cake! Me, too!!

Thanks for comin' in for a wee visit! Later, Baby! Ailsa!

Thursday, October 23rd. Hello, Gorgeous!! How you doin', today?? Well, I'm off to a late start, today... Cara, my 15 year old daughter, is off on a Retreat to the Mountains with her School Peer Support Team, and Dwight didn't have to go in early, so we got to sleep in... but we got up to a crazy Wind and Dust Storm ... Poor wee Tia di NOT want to go out at all! Ah, the life of a Dog! Does it appeal to you, every now and then?? Me, too! Plenty of cuddles and everyone always thinks you're sooooo cute! ha,ha,ha!

We went out to celebrate our Anniversary, last night -- with Aidan. He was busy arranging eveyone's Cutlery and the Salt and Pepper Shakers into some very intricate pattern so he could 'save the world'. Then he changed that to 'take over the world'...guess who loves cartoons?? Dwight has been particularly silent when we go out for dinner, these days, so I mentioned to him last night that I wondered what we would ever talk about if we didn't 'talk Real Estate'... it's weird. Now that we've decided to definitely put our house on the market (in mid-November...), it's funny to think of where we'll live, next...

Just so you know, I always think there's a time to buy something that's already Built, even though we CAN Build on our own. The tentative plan is to sell this house, buy much smaller 'in town', and sit on the money (from the Equity) until we find some Land that we like enough to Build again. We'll see. I couldn't get Dwight to even look at the properties available in Okotoks, which was annoying, but at least I know what's on the Market that might be appropriate for us. It's going to be tricky 'Downsizing' from this house, because there's just soooo much space, here...Steinbech used to say that people get used to their new life circumstances in 3 days, and I think that is true. Humans are surprisingly resilient, no??

You know what I caught that crazy Dwight doing the other day? He was putting on my favorite Nikes!! Yick! That's just disturbing on a variety of levels, no?? ha,ha,ha,ha! And when a shrieked ("Aaaaaah", like that!) and told him to never, ever wear my shoes, he was mad at me for having a reaction. "What, I just want to wear them for a minute..." Ick. Those are my favorite running shoes -- I call them my 'Construction Sneakers", and I don't want them all stretched out! And I mostly don't want my husband wearing my shoes!! Man!! Eeeew!

Tip of the Day: Well, I'm tempted to make my 'Tip' 'Find a husband with big feet', but that's probably been done before... har, har!! So my real tip is more for the 'Pre-building stage'. You know how I was telling you about the Wind Storm? When I designed this house, I made sure the Attached Garage was on the North Side of the House, to act as a shield against the Cold Norther Winds (they really are cold!). It's an easy way to save Energy and keep your House warmer in the Winter.

Here's your 'Daily Pic Fix'!

Okay, so these are the Views from My Office. I can actually see the Mountain Peaks from my Desk!! Can you believe that?? Scoooore! It's from the Landscaping that Ron did a couple of weeks, ago.

Oh, yeah. Ron has his Property up for sale right now, too. I'll add it to his page on my site (I put everyone I like who works with us on my Site!).

Thanks for swingin' in! See you tomorrow, Honey! Later, Baby! Ailsa!

Wednesday, October 22nd. Hey you beautiful thing, you!! Hope you make a ton of money, today!! Hey, wouldn't that make a great new 'greeting'?! Except for your Socialist friends -- then it would have to be,"Hope we all make equal amounts of money, today, but too much -- don't want to rise above the 'Masses'!! yuff, yuff!

Well, it's our 5th Wedding Anniversary, today. It seems like such a tiny number for what often feels like an eternity!! ha,ha! Ah, well. Them's the Breaks! This is the Second Marriage for both of us, but bizarrely enough, we were both married on the same day, at the same time in our First Marriages, only 3,000 miles apart... weird, eh? May 9th, 1987. So we always say that we were married twice on the same day. It's sophisticated humor like that that keeps it all going...

It was pretty funny when we were building this house (which is really big, if you haven't noticed, yet...) and people would always ask how long we'd been married (which really translates into : How long did it take you to accumulate this amount of wealth, but whatever...!!), and we would quietly say, "Oh, about 2 years..."!! That's funny, though.

You know that old line, "We've been married for 47 years...2 of them happy..."?! Must try to avoid that!!

We got married in Santa Barbara, California, because I'm a California Girl at Heart ... and I didn't want anything more to do with Canadian Law in any possible way, since it sucks... that's right, I said it. I hate Canadian Law with a passion that almost equals no other... but more on that later...

Anyway, it was a nice little ceremony in a pretty little park in the middle of Town. I wanted to get married on the Beach, but it was decided that it was too windy... I got my Dress in the Garment District of Los Angeles (go there next time you're in L.A. -- you'll be amazed at the great deals!!), and our Wedding Rings in the Diamond District. We swung by a local Nursery and I got a ton of Roses, Some Assorted Greenery (that's the technical name for the green part of the Bouquet!), and a bunch of Ribbon, and went back to the Hotel to make the Boquets. Cara was our 'Flower Girl' -- she was 10 at the time and particularly cute! She spent the night before the Wedding practicing signing her name, which was pretty funny!

The Wedding was at 5:00 O'Clock, and I got dressed and did my hair in about 15 minutes -- it's easy when you have long hair -- you just put it up, and off you go! I'm all for an Elopement!!

Tip of the Day: Is it getting chilly in your house, yet? Here's a great way to increase the Heat Output on your Gas Fireplace...Dwight picked up a 'Blower' for the Downstairs Fireplace -- I'm not sure why he didn't get one for each Fireplace, but whatever... He says they generally cost around $100., and if you were to hire a Mechanical Contractor (That's what Dwight is...), it would cost under $100. to install it... roughly. The 'Blower' literally blows the Hot Air out of the Fireplace, so it heats up the room a lot faster. Anything that saves money and energy is good, right??

Here's your 'Daily Fix' of Pictures!! Hey, it's healthier than Heroin, am I right?? ha,ha,ha!

That's the Sunrise that I got up to the other day -- so I ran to get my video camera! See the Front Entry? I love that Top Window above the Door -- the View through that window is spectacular, and it's like a 'moving picture'. Very cool!

Thanks for coming in! See you tomorrow! Later, Baby! Ailsa!

Great Gifts!

*********

Tuesday, October 21st. Hey, Sunshine!! How you doin'?? Tomorrow is our 5th Wedding Anniversary, and I haven't got anything for Dwight, yet... I'm thinking I'll just get him some lottery tickets from the local Animal Shelter... I'm hoping that 5 is the 'Paper Anniversary', to make the Tickets acceptable! Plus, it's the 'Just see if you get Lucky' Gift...har, har!

Dwight's buddy, who is an Electrician (That's a useful thing to know all sorts of people in the Trades -- 'Will Work for Dinner'!!), was over last night, and the two of them had a look at the Hot Tub. Everything looks good, so the Tub should be up and running by the weekend... WooHoo! My shoulder is really sore from the painting last weekend, so it'll be nice to soak in the Tub, again!

Oh, yeah. Have you been to the 'Bathroom' page? Pop in when you get a chance and you'll see we put in a 'Double Tub' in our Master Ensuite Bath. The reason I mention it is that I have been in it twice since we moved in here. Twice! I don't know what I was thinking when we selected it -- you have to go in there together -- ick! I hardly ever get to be alone, and I miss being able to have a Bubble Bath all by myself, so the next Build will have a great big round tub... for one!! ha,ha,ha!

I'm watching Ellen, and she has a little Cold, today. Must write and tell her about my Onion, Honey 'N Lemon Recipe for Colds -- have you tried it, yet? It really works! It's especially good if you can't take medication (if you happen to be pregnant or nursing...), or you want to nip the cold in the bud so you can get on with your life, right??

I used to get a really sore throat every September when the new school year would start, getting used to talking loudly enough for my students to hear me -- that puts a lot of strain on your voice, so this recipe is great for that, too!!

Tip of the Day: Have you ever had a bother trying to get a Light Bulb out of the socket? We have a tremendous amount of the Flush Pot Lights (I think that's what they're called...), and when they burn out, sometimes they're easy to get ou and sometimes you just can't budge them. Well, our Electrician Friend, Todd, had a great solution that totally worked -- wear a pair of Dry Rubber Gloves when you remove the light bulb. It creates enough friction and stays still at the same time to get the stooopid bulb out, plus provides some protection on the off-chance that the bulb breaks in your hand...(for goodness sake, make sure you're not doing the dishes, notice a light bulb burnt out, and run over to deal with it right away -- yikes! That won't be pretty!! Just leave it for a few weeks until your rubber gloves are all nice and DRY!! ha,ha!)

Now, I did mention a very similar idea to Dwight on the weekend when he was swearing away at the light bulb over the Garage Door (it was really windy and he was up on a very high ladder trying to dislodge the light bulb... it was in there so tight, it just seemed impossible to get it out of there...). I thought that Dwight could have tried his Leather Gloves, but he refused... He has a bad habit of waiting for a MAN to come up with the same idea, then he'll try it... annoyink!! Maybe that's why I don't enjoy the Double Tub!! ha,ha,ha! It's beautiful to look at, though!!

Here's a couple of pictures of the Master Bedroom while I get the new pics of the Double Tub transferred to the computer... I just ran upstairs to take some pictures of the Bath.

So the first picture is an Interior Window, which is a very cool feature, looking into the Sunroom. It's nice to lay around on the bed and just admire the view out the Sunroom and look at all the plants in there... Very relaxing space!

In the second picture, you can see how high the Vault is in the Master Bedroom. This House is a Bungalow Walk-Out, so that meant we were able to carry the Vaulted Ceiling throughout the whole Upper Floor of the House, so it creates a lovely open, bright feeling in all the rooms. Cool, huh?? That door leads to the Master Closet, and it has an 11' Ceiling with a Chandelier! Who doesn't love a huge closet??

Okay, I got a whole bunch of new pictures onto my computer, so I'll put some nice new pictures on every day -- that'll be fun!

Here's the infamous 'Double Tub' in our Master Ensuite Bathroom.

I love that Glass Block Window behind the Bath -- it lets in just the right amount of light, but still allows for complete privacy. The Faucets that you choose can make a huge difference in how the whole Tub looks, even though it might seem like a little thing. Roman Tub Faucets are a lot more expensive than you might guess, so be prepared for some hefty price tags before you shop for them!!

Thanks for coming in for a visit! See you tomorrow! I think I'll put on the new pictures of a gorgeous sunrise I got the other morning... come on back over to see them!!

Later, Baby! Ailsa !

Monday, October 20th, 2003. Hey, Baby, what's up?? You know what? It's pitch black when I get up in the morning, now. I hate that! Ugh. Soon it'll be dark when Cara leaves for school and when she gets home. I gotta tell ya, that's one of the things I really appreciated about living in L.A. -- as far as I remember, it was sunny all the time! Now that I like!! ha,ha!

I was out looking at all the nice new trees that we just put in at the Front of the House, and now I have to go get a ton of Christmas Fairy Lights to adorn them ... I think it's going to look gorgeous!! The Electrician (one of Dwight's old employees...) is coming over to hook up the electrical to the Hot Tub, this afternoon -- yipeee!! And Dwight has finally agreed that it's time to get the Hot Tub Cover -- I couldn't bring myself to go around him -- not worth the hassle... However, I think I might go ahead and get a quote for the Paved Driveway, since Dwight is still on the fence about that, and I'd like to see it done before the winter really sets in! Dwight finished all the Plumbing aspects of the Hot Tub, yesterday, so hopefully we'll get it up and running by the weekend! That'll be nice!

Let me see if I can't get you a couple of new pictures every day -- won't that be fun to look at? We love looking at other people's houses -- for ideas and just because it's fun to see how other folks live! ha,ha! I never did get out to take a picture of the Garage Trim that I painted over the weekend -- maybe today!

Here's a few pictures of my Sunroom, right off the Master Bedroom. Very lovely Retreat! Perfect for little dogs!! Tia has an excellent view of the Deer, Prarie Dogs and a variety of birds that she one day hopes to have a wee snack on!! ha,ha,ha! She takes her 'job' as a watch dog very seriously -- she's on guard day and night, except for nap-time, but that's pretty much the same schedule as lots of guards, so she's okay with that!! yuff, yuff!

Tip of the Day: I happen to be allergic to all sorts of scents, so my whole home is 'scentsless', if you will! It's hard to find products without any scent, but if you're in the same boat, you can find scent-free products at the Superstore, if you live in Canada. I hear that Tide has a new scent-free Laundry Detergent, so that's good. I can hardly make it through the Cleaning Aisle in the Grocery Store -- I wonder how all those zillion scents really affect us? Do you ever feel bombarded with smells?

For Make-up, Revlon has some of the best 'scentsless' products, which I use, and Lubriderm has a great hand/face/body cream that is entirely scent-free. Speaking of that, are you at the stage yet where you're slathering yourself with cream?? I think I started that when I was in my early 30's -- I remember seeing an Awards Show years ago where one of the women (very famous, but I could never remember their names, back then...!) had a smooth face but a particularly wrinkly neck, which clearly made an impression on me... so ever since then I've been putting cream on my neck and shoulders, too. Who knew??

Oh, yeah. And for soap, the Unscented Baby Soap is the best scent-free product for me -- I use it for Aidan, too, because I have to be able to breathe around him to give him lots of hugs, right?! You know, even Baby Products are chock full of scents -- I think that's too much for little babies, and I wonder if it bothers their little throats? Huggies has scent-free Diapers, and Kirkland Lake has scent-free Baby Wipes (I get those at Costco, of course!!).

For household cleaning products, I'm still okay with Citrus Scents, so that's lucky, but I use Baking Soda whenever I can, and regular Bleach. Speaking of Baking Soda (I'm the Baking Soda Queen!! ha,ha!), have you checked out my 'special tip' with Baking Soda on the Tips & Recipes Page?? ha,ha! Go ahead and try it, then write and tell me if it worked!!

Thanks for swingin' by! See you tomorrow! Later, Baby! Ailsa!

Here's a couple of pictures of my Office on the Walk-Out Level. It's gorgeous, and a joy to work in, which is good, since I'm in here a good portion of every day!! That's the Pool Table in the Foreground of the 2nd shot, and my Exercise Equipment is behind the two settees (or 'couches'!!). We built the Lower Level with a 9' Ceiling, since that provides a much more open feel for a nominal cost difference. You can request a 9' ceiling if you're having a house built for you. You'll love the end result!
