Moving Tips

< >

Moving Day is always an exciting day, especially when you are moving into a house you've just built for yourself!

We never take down the Beds, so they can be kept intact and put directly into the Bedrooms.

Here's a little trick to get the Beds ready to sleep in that night (if it's a one-day move-in) -- Fold all the bedding, starting with the Fitted Sheet, into the center. (Just pull each corner out and bring it to the center.) Bundle it all up and transport it to your new house in your own vehicle, that way it won't get dirty.

As soon as the Movers leave, you can go in and quickly make the beds -- that way, you'll all get a good night's sleep after a very busy and tiring day!

Be sure to have everything packed before the Movers arrive. You'd be surprised how many people wait until the last second to start packing (how big a job can that be???), then you're wasting valuable Time and Money trying to run around like a crazy person at the end, in an attempt to move your stuff.

It's always shocking how much stuff you accumulate between moves, no matter how old you are. Sometimes, this is a good time to 'lighten the load' and sell some of your stuff or give it to a local Charity (or a little of both...).

If you have a Trailer that needs to be moved to your new house, anyway, fill it to the brim with boxes -- why not?? Might as well use the extra space! We filled our Trailer to capacity, parked it beside the new house, and realized we've only used it for Storage for the past 4 years! (The entire time I was pregnant with Aidan and all of the time since!) So I think I have convinced Dwight that it is time to sell the Caravan ('Trailer' for the non-British readers!).

I realized that we hadn't used it since the onset of Aidan (when our son, Aidan, was 3 years old...) when Aidan and I were out emptying out the Caravan, and Aidan went in and said, "Wow! There's a whole little HOUSE in here!" And so, I felt quite remiss as a parent, not having taken Aidan camping, yet, but he is a little too crazy to camp with, at this stage of the game ... we have locks galore in this house, to prevent him from going out and never coming back, so camping would be a bit too hairy for us right now!

He ran away once (I say ONCE, because Dwight promised he would never leave Aidan outside alone, again, in a poor attempt to 'make him into a man'...ugh!)and it was absolutely horrifying, since we live very close to the Highwood River (1 Lot over), and there is a huuuuge cliff that is completely unguarded (because the 'natural lay of the land' is apparently more important than human life in Alberta ... ). There's never a safe place for 2 year olds to be on their own -- especially outside -- and it was particularly difficalt because Aidan's hair happens to be the exact same color of the 'Wheat-grass'. Pretty scary stuff, so the extra locks went in the next day.
